About CWMAC
The Community Wildlife Management Areas Consortium (CWMAC) serves as the national umbrella organization representing all Authorized Associations (AAs) managing Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in Tanzania.
Established in 2010 and registered under the Societies Act, CWMAC currently represents 24 Wildlife Management Areas across the country. The organization works to ensure that WMAs sustainably manage Tanzania’s natural resources while improving livelihoods for local communities through conservation and responsible resource utilization.
The Opportunity
CWMAC is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and results-oriented professional to lead its fundraising and partnership development efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with the Impact Manager, Programme Team, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to secure funding from institutional donors, conservation foundations, bilateral agencies, and private-sector partners.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to community-based conservation initiatives while strengthening the financial sustainability of WMAs across Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Mobilization and Proposal Development
The selected candidate will:
- Develop and manage a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
- Identify funding opportunities from bilateral donors, multilateral agencies, conservation foundations, and private-sector organizations.
- Lead proposal development from concept notes to full grant applications.
- Prepare compelling project narratives, logical frameworks, budgets, and monitoring plans.
- Ensure all funding submissions meet donor requirements and deadlines.
- Track and manage fundraising opportunities aligned with CWMAC’s mission.
Donor Relations and Grant Management
Responsibilities include:
- Managing relationships with institutional and philanthropic donors.
- Coordinating donor reporting in collaboration with Finance and Monitoring & Evaluation teams.
- Ensuring compliance with grant agreements and donor requirements.
- Monitoring grant implementation, reporting schedules, and budget utilization.
- Supporting donor visits, presentations, and conservation finance events.
- Maintaining an organized grants management system.
Conservation Trust Fund Development
The officer will support the establishment and operationalization of the CWMAC Conservation Trust Fund by:
- Developing donor engagement materials and fundraising cases.
- Identifying and cultivating relationships with major donors and investors.
- Working with legal and financial advisors during fund development.
- Assisting with communication strategies and investment prospectuses.
Strategic Communications and Evidence-Based Fundraising
The role also involves:
- Developing evidence-based fundraising materials.
- Documenting conservation success stories and impact reports.
- Supporting production of the annual State of WMAs Report.
- Strengthening CWMAC’s visibility among conservation donors and partners.
- Representing the organization at networking and donor engagement events.
Compliance and Internal Coordination
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure fundraising activities comply with organizational policies and Tanzanian regulations.
- Work closely with Finance teams on grant budgeting and financial reporting.
- Provide fundraising pipeline updates to senior management.
- Support effective grant tracking and financial accountability.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Environmental Science, Business Administration, International Relations, or a related field.
- At least four years of professional experience in fundraising, resource mobilization, or grants management.
- Proven experience securing grants from institutional donors, bilateral agencies, multilateral organizations, or conservation foundations.
- Excellent proposal writing and report-writing skills in English.
- Strong understanding of logical frameworks, results-based management, and donor reporting requirements.
- Experience managing active grants, donor relationships, and compliance processes.
- Fluency in both English and Swahili.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant management systems.
